EleCtronic Attak resilienT system (Italian Space Agency Project)

Space assets can be attacked by systems and technologies operating within the Electromagnetic Spectrum (EMS); therefore, maintaining control of the EMS in space is a crucial requirement for both military and civilian operations.

The objective of ECATE is to design and develop a payload capable of supporting and protecting communication payloads and systems, ensuring their resilience against interference and disruptions.

From a technical perspective, ECATE combines cognitive capabilities with Machine Learning (ML) capabilities to respond to interference or disruption scenarios by providing mitigation solutions. If the attack can be easily detected and characterized through the cognitive component, the proposed mitigation solutions are applied rapidly. If the cognitive process fails, or if the ML process provides a better assessment of the effects and countermeasures, then the ML-based response will represent the most effective solution against the attack.
