Company

Origins and identity

Intecs was founded in Rome on February 22, 1974, by Emilio Rossi, a former Captain in the Italian Navy. Under the technical guidance of Austrian engineer Leslie Von Neumann, the company specialized from the outset in the development of electronic systems and embedded software for naval and land defense, a highly innovative field for the time.

From space to mission-critical systems

In 1986, under the leadership of Stefano Ciarrocca (formerly head of ESA's software division), Intecs embarked on a phase of strong growth and international expansion. Collaboration with MATRA Marconi Space of Toulouse led the company to contribute to globally significant space programs, including the International Space Station and missions such as Rosetta, Ariane 5, Hermes, and Helios. During that period, Matra Marconi (now part of Airbus) acquired a minority stake in the company.

Diversification: railway and automotive

In a challenging environment for the space and defense sectors, under the leadership of Massimo Micangeli, Intecs expanded its operations into new markets, with a growing focus on transportation and mobility. In the early 1990s, its collaboration with Ansaldo STS (now Hitachi Rail) on electronic train control and safety systems was consolidated, with projects such as SCMT, ERTMS, and High Speed, and contributions to international solutions such as the driverless Copenhagen metro and autonomous freight trains for Rio Tinto in Australia.

Toward the end of the 1990s, with the entry of Actia, Intecs also accelerated its presence in the automotive sector, developing partnerships with Magneti Marelli and FIAT and collaborating with major industry players. With the arrival of CEO Massimo Mannori, the company strengthened its position by participating in international consortia and standards such as AUTOSAR and Automotive SPICE.
